Closed the Circle

We’ve closed the circle
Taken our time
To seal the holes we saw leak
Teaching carefully
Weaning away flaws
So this time, we’d get it
This time, we’d get a story
That had no end. Or a happy
Send-off at least, making
Certain that we’d carried
Nothing but the best from the past.

We’ve given it careful thought
Solved it truly. A solution
Notwithstanding our doubts
We dried our tears
Trickled from cheeks of
Floundered fools, who never knew
What we know.

Yes, we’ve solved it
Pushed past our fears and
Doubts. Let the resounding
No
Melt beneath this glowing tide.
We’ve found a truth they
Never saw, a hope that if
Only they’d seen, they could have
Built what we will build
And not the flimsy fleeting
Silhouette of an empty home.

So though we scoff to see the portrait
Of four halves split in four
And mistake it with reflections
We still choose to band one to another
Place the closed circle
On the point beside the pinkie
Of our left hands.
